JEAN-MARIE AULD

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Jean-Marie Auld, who passed away at St. Boniface Hospital on May 20, 2026. Jean-Marie was known to all those around her as warm, kind, curious and undeniably lovely. Jean-Marie was born on October 13, 1936, in Winnipeg, where she attended high school at Glenlawn Collegiate. In 1957 she graduated from the Winnipeg General Hospital School of Nursing, becoming a Head Nurse at the Winnipeg General Hospital; also working as a Nurse in England and Australia. In 1970 Jean-Marie earned a Bachelor of Nursing from the University of Manitoba, after which she continued working as a Head Nurse at the Health Sciences Centre until her retirement in 2002.

Jean-Marie’s love of travel took her to Russia, Spain, Greece, Japan, Malaysia, China and East Africa. She loved new adventures, new experiences and meeting new people. Those who knew her, even briefly, were aware of her genuine curiosity and interest in people’s lives. She became fast friends with all she met and had an impact on each person she interacted with. Jean-Marie loved spending time with family and friends and entertaining in her home and at her beloved cabin at Royal Lake. She was enthusiastic about food, music, mystery novels and mystery television. She also was a lifelong pet lover, taking in many dogs over the years as well as her brother David’s cat. You could always count on her to have a dog biscuit in her pocket or bag at all times, just in case. Jean-Marie’s active spirit was not dimmed later in life. She continued to regularly play bridge, participated in senior’s clubs, exercise classes and in multiple dining groups and nursing alumni reunions. She was a regular patron of the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre and Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra and a supporter of the Winnipeg Humane Society, Harvest Manitoba and many other charitable organizations.

Jean-Marie is predeceased by her parents Dave and Jessie and her dear brother David. She is survived by family in Manitoba, Ontario, Alberta and Scotland and by countless friends. She was courageous, loving, funny, strong-willed and full of joy. She possessed a tenacity that showed what can be accomplished with determination and persistence. Her selflessness, warmth and generous spirit will be remembered forever. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength and compassion that will live on in her family and friends. She will be missed dearly.

A celebration of Jean-Marie’s life will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., in the reception room of Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler Ave at Henderson Hwy in Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please consider making a donation to Harvest Manitoba, Siloam Mission or the Winnipeg Humane Society in her honour.
